Industry 4.0: Augmented Reality at EMO (World Fair for Machine Tools 2019)

 

Last week, the experts of the metal industry met again in the exhibition halls of Hannover. This time the occasion was the European trade show EMO, the Exposition Mondiale de la Machine Outil. After six turbulent days at the fair, all 2,200 exhibitors seemed to have left Hannover with a positive feeling. EMO thus once again proved its reputation as the world’s leading trade fair for innovative metal processing, where numerous promising international business has had its beginning. As one of the most important trade fairs for manufacturers, EMO has been setting the pace for global trends in production technology for almost a decade now.

In order to participate in this development, we as 3DQR were also represented at the booth of the VDMA (Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau). For us, as a startup, this fair was a great opportunity to make valuable contacts in the influential metal industry. 

One of the completely new technologies that stuck out among the numerous business models of the long-established metal industry was our Augmented Reality Model. With this innovative technology, it is possible to gain an even better understanding of the machines used. This can be achieved through the animation of the individual components and their virtual inscriptions. In addition, individual references to possible special features in the application are a feature that makes AR such a valuable addition to everyday work.

Another conveniently added value that 3DQR’s innovative technology offers industrial users is a significant reduction in the annoying production downtimes. Users now no longer have to wait long hours for the arrival of a repair service provider. AR enables even untrained personnel to carry out repairs on machines. These are just a few of the countless applications that the new 3DQR technology can bring to EMO visitors.

The trade fair, which originally focused on machine tools, was the ideal opportunity to establish relationships with international business partners. Among the approximately 117,000 product experts who came to Hannover from more than 150 countries, many showed great interest in our unique 3DQR augmented reality solution approach. Even in areas that the company had not yet considered a possible application area, new ideas for innovative business models emerged.

In summary, the 3DQR team draws a very positive outcome from the exciting EMO week and is already very excited about how the new ideas can be implemented in practice. Furthermore, we already look forward to the next EMO in Hannover which will take place in 2021.
